Sworn or certified translation is a way of certifying that a translation complies with the original text. It is mainly requested for diplomas and certificates as well as for legal documents, opinions and contracts.
Sworn translations are public deeds issued under the competence of the Court Registry Office. The translator presents the translated document to be sworn, together with the original and a form (oath statement) prepared specially by the court and duly filled in. The provisions issued by the Court of Milan require a 16.00 Euro stamp duty to be applied to the document after every 100 lines, commencing from the first folio, and also including the oath statement in the calculation.
Translations cannot be sworn from one foreign language to another, so they must always be first translated into Italian.
